Yesterday I was reading my preferred online Italian journal Il Post and if you know Italian it’s a great resource. Specifically this article and related comments caught my eyes due to the Italian folks problems related to their localist point of view. Indeed seems that some majors of Liguria region don’t like low cost tourists; they says it isn’t useful to improve the quality of local tourism and the overall Liguria image.
I don’t want to talk about this, my purpose with this blog is to acquire as much knowledge as possible and the pill is about the pamphlet of J. Swift named A Modest Proposal.
Actually the full title is A Modest Proposal For preventing the Children of Poor People From being a Burthen to Their Parents or Country, and For making them Beneficial to the Publick and it’s a satirical essay that explain how the “impoverished Irish might ease their economic troubles by selling their children as food for rich gentlemen and ladies” (from Wikipedia).
The essay is impressive! It could be intended in a number of way and surely the satirical point of view is very interesting. But more interesting for me is how it explain that sometimes we go trough illogical schemes trying to solve problems that otherwise we cannot deal with.
Indeed the author says that the most easy way to solve a couple of problem like economics troubles for the poor and new kind of food for the rich is the the first can sell their children to the second! It’s incredible that no other person thought before!
I think in the same way of my father: there is only two way to do somethings! The first is to do nothing, the second is to do the thing as our best possibilities, focusing on the cause of the problem and on it’s solution.
So next time you have to deal with a problem please, stop for a minute and thinks: I really want to solve the problem or I need a backdoor to run away from it?
